Question by dodobrown691212: hardware virus?
-i believe i have a hardware virus, not a software virus.
-i was just on the phone with microsoft tech support and they said it sounds like a hardware virus.
-i have the latest version of norton, and spy sweeper, which do not detect any virus.
-iv’e rebooted from windows xp home edition and did “repair” and chkdsk /r. ,, after crashing a few times i finally got chkdsk to complete
continued.
chkdsk said it found 1 or more errors and that they have been repaired.
-i problems i haave been having are; my computor will freeze then turn off, right before it starts to freeze up it makes some “static/ electric” type noise, like a popping clicking noise..
also the cd/dvd drive sometimes makes clicking noises, as if it were about to open.
-this problem would start when i would watch dvd movies, about half way to 3/4 into the movie the computor would freeze up..
-crashed- continued.
-it seemed as if it was over heating, also it seems like the problem is the worst when it is the hottest. even if the room temp is above 55F it seems to get hot.
-my computor seems to be working ok at this moment and also feels cool.
-other problems; cd drive wouldn’t open, either by hitting the button or right click/ eject.
-also internet would’t connect. under connections tab the settings buttton was grey, now that i can connect the internet options/ connections/setting button works as well.
in responce to triods;
its a laptop, the noise sounds like it comes from about the middle, as well as the cd drive starts to act up right after the static, and also i can hear the popping noise in my headpfones. its i also smoke sometimes at the computor, does that matter.
in responce to crystal;
whats a capacitor or diode ?
could these have been damaged due to my laptop getting too hot?
no grinding, fan sounds ok, the laptop sits on a hard surface. ive tryed elevating it too. its acting like it has a fever.

My browsers are so slow it is driving me crazy! Where should I go for help?
Question by SkippyDoodles: My browsers are so slow it is driving me crazy! Where should I go for help?
I am about to throw my laptop across the room. About 2 months ago my computer started slowing down while online, hanging up and occasionally crashing (the browser only). It felt like some kind of virus or malware so I ran every scan under the sun and found nothing. My computer isn’t slow in general, in fact it is nice and fast when I am working with offline stuff. I concluded that a virus or some kind of malware wasn’t the problem.
Q&A: What can I do to make Dell computer honor their contract?
Question by jackcravelle777: What can I do to make Dell computer honor their contract?
Ordered a Dell laptop computer for my daughter when she started college in July 2006. There have been problems from day one. Three deliver delays,computer finally arrived two weeks after she started school. First,second and third computer were damaged or not working, The forth has had NUMEROUS problems -hard drive had to be replaced ,key board malfunctioned, failed to boot anything,etc. etc. etc. We purchased “in home repair”, Dell had the nerve to call us stating that the repair person was outside my daughter’s dorm room waiting to get in to repair her computer. Called the dorm RA he checked no one was in the dorm. I have tried every Dell phone number,customer service,consumer hot lines,television stations-no one is willing to help. We pay the bill on time every month , Dell takes our money and my daughter is stuck with a computer that has never worked properly. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
